Cast it, wait for the real bite, then fight it to the boat.
Fishing that plays like fishing. You charge the cast on a power meter, watch the bobber twitch through a few nibbles, and set the hook when it really goes under. Then the fight starts: hold to reel, ease off when the fish runs, and keep the line tension in the green until it's at your feet. Every fish comes out with its own weight, length and grade, so a trophy catch is something people talk about. 21 species live in the lakes, rivers, piers, surf and deep sea, and three protected species bite mostly in a restricted zone, for players who don't mind the wardens.
HOW IT PLAYS
- Buy a rod and bait at Alamo Bait & Tackle, then use the rod near any water.
- Hold E to charge the cast and let go. The meter swings, so time the release for a long cast.
- The bobber nibbles a few times before the real bite. Strike early and you spook the fish.
- Fight it: hold LMB or E to reel. Too much tension snaps the line, too little and it throws the hook. When it runs, let it.
- Land it and a catch card shows the species, weight, length and grade (Small up to Trophy). Bigger fish sell for more.
- Bait matters. Each species has favorites, and lures survive the catch (you only lose them when the line snaps).
- Dawn and dusk are bite time. Some fish bite more at night or in the rain.
- Take a boat offshore, drop the anchor and fish the deep sea for tuna, mahi-mahi and swordfish.
- Poaching: stingrays, great whites and dolphins bite mostly in the restricted water around the aircraft carrier. Landing one can call the police, and only the Dockside Buyer takes them, at night, for marked bills.
- Levels 1 to 30 with real perks: faster bites, better odds for rare fish, fewer boots and tin cans, a wider hookset window. /fishing opens your logbook with personal bests per species and the server record holder.
FOR SERVER OWNERS
- The server rolls every catch, size and value, and checks the timing of each hookset and landing. A client can't make up a fish.
- Fishing spots are polygons in shared/zones.lua, and water outside them still works: inland water fishes as a lake, the coast as surf, and a boat at sea is deep sea.
- Rods, baits, species, odds, weights, prices, level perks, shop stock and level gates, fight tuning and buyer hours are all in the config, which stays open.
- The poaching call goes through one function in the config. It uses rr-mdt if you run it, and you can point it at ps-dispatch, cd_dispatch or anything else.
- Optional sales tax on tackle (off by default).
- Progress lives in character metadata and records in the resource's KVP store. No SQL.
- 35 items with icons included: rods, baits, lures, anchor, lockbox, junk and 21 fish.
- No MLO or streamed assets.
Requires: qbx_core, ox_lib, ox_inventory, ox_target and PolyZone.
